Jules Breakers - SMASH IT! - Friendly Climbing - Indoor rock climbing holds

Welcome to the Friendly Climbing Co blog!

As this is the first entry, let me introduce myself.

My name is Jules, I’m originally from Haarlem in the Netherlands and I started climbing there in the mid 90’s. As the Netherlands has no natural rock at all, and I didn’t have access to a car in those days, my first years climbing were all indoors. Despite living in Sheffield now (and yes, I did move here for the climbing) I still love climbing indoors as much as climbing on rock. I’ve also discovered a new passion for board climbing, although that is still very much in its infancy.

Over the second and third lockdowns of 2020/21 I realised that I needed to do something new with my time. The idea of a company making holds was born, and with help and advice from friends and family with a special shout out to Percy and Sam at the Works, and Rob Napier from Enigma Climbing Products, Friendly Climbing Co was born. I chose Polycarbonate as an alternative to fibreglass, and thermoforming as the manufacturing method for several reasons. More about this in future posts, stay tuned!

In the meantime, here’s some news:

Our Breaker series holds, shaped by Rob Napier can now be found in several centres in the UK as well as the Netherlands, and mid Aug 23 they will feature at the Crazy Rise 3 competition in Yokohama Japan, after Sohta Amagasa reached out about sponsorship. Beyond excited!

All the best, and go out there and Smash It!

Jules
